Low Blood Sugar or Hypoglycemia

The term hypoglycemia refers to abnormally low blood sugar levels > 70mg/dl. Hypoglycemia is a major limiting factor in the glycemic management of type 1 and inslin treated type 2 diabetes.

Symptoms Of Hypoglycemia

Mild: Tremors, Palpitation, Sweating, Hunger, Fatigue, Cold, Clammy Skin.

Moderate: Headache, Dizziness, Mood Changes, Low Attentiveness, Drowsiness, Blurred Vision, Slurred Speech.

Severe: Conscious or Unconscious, Coma-Convulsion, Disoriented Behavior.

Treatment

Treat all suger under 70mg/dl (With or without symptoms)

  • Steps to treating your blood suger

  1. By eating 15gm/3tbs of suger or 3-4 glucose tablets or 3-5 hard candies or by drinking 4 ounces of fruit juice or 1/2 can of regular soda pop.
  2. Recheck blood glucose in 15 to 20 min and repeat treatment if necessary.
  3. If your glucose is normal, eat a protein meal or snacks.
  4. If you have symptoms, but blood glucose is over 70 have snacks.
  5. Contact doctors/hospital immediately especially if patient is unconscius or subconscius.
